I'm going to remind you of a fact. Your invention won't be in the market overnight. If a company, business, etc., likes your concept or idea or invention. It won't happen overnight. Now not that it is impossible, but most likely it won't be out there overnight.
There are several things that have to take place. There are several things that have to occur.
For example: Let's say you invented the next hot thing. First of all, you want to find out if it is out there already. It could be! Someone else might have invented the same thing you did. It happens more often than you want to believe. If that is the case, you must stop what you're doing and just accept it and move on. Now, I've written about this before. But I think it's necessary for me to repeat this to you.
Second, let's say if after you do your search, there is no one out there with the same invention. Well, that's good...so far. Make sure you have a nice prototype (a sample of the idea, invention or widget you came up with). Make sure it works. Get an honest opinion of a very trusted family member or friend and let them check it out. They will be honest will you. Because some people invent the goofiest (did I spell that right?) thing and think that everyone would want to buy it. I got news for you. They won't! So stay realistic and be realistic. Yeah, I know it hurts. But again, move on and invent something else. You can do it.
Most inventor will invent more than one thing.
Remember to keep a log or a journal of everything having to do with your invention. Oh, also make sure that if you plan to show these friends of yours anything to do with your invention, make sure they sign a non disclosure form. What??? You say? Yep, because I have heard of cases where a "friend" or even family member has stolen an invention or the concept. So sorry to say that so be careful. Your invention could be the next hot cake that everyone wants. That is why these things happen.
You need to find a company that will want to see your invention. Remember to show your invention to the company that best fits the product. Show your plastic kitchenware design or idea to a company that already makes plastic kitchenware items. Now doesn't that sound like common sense?
Even if after you've showed off your "baby" to a company and they don't want it or embrace it at least you got your foot in the door for the next time around. If the company you showed your invention to ends up liking YOU they will invite you back to show another one of your designs and that one might be the one. So don't give up. The owner of the company could even give you some advice. That's good. Take it. Because you could use all the learning as you go.
Learn from the mistakes that you will make as you go. It could be quite upsetting but you have to learn from them.
Also, if it happens that they do like your concept and you get to sign an agreement with the company, don't think that things will start rolling overnight. There is a process that has to occur at this point. It could take up to two years before you end up seeing your product on the shelves of stores.
You could sign a deal where you have the owner of the company pay you upfront for holding your invention in their hands, throughout the whole business deal.
Now also, here is something I want to tell you, just because you and he/she signed a deal doesn't mean that it will come through. Things could happen along the way, but it always helps to stay positive.
The whole process could be nerve wrecking but exciting at the same time.
Listen, if you have questions you could call me at 847 502-7604. Or even if you have had situations happen to you along the way, I want to hear about them. Take care and keep inventing.
